Description of Achillea ptarmica 'The Pearl'

Achillea ptarmica 'The Pearl' (Sneezewort) is a graceful, long-flowering perennial with delicate, pearl-like double white blooms held above soft, finely textured foliage throughout summer.

Appearance

  • Height: 60–90 cm (24–36 inches)
  • Flowers: Small, double white blooms from early summer into late summer
  • Foliage: Fine, airy green leaves forming dense clumps

How to grow Achillea ptarmica 'The Pearl'

  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Soil: Moist but well-drained soil
  • Hardiness: Fully hardy and reliable year after year

Bog garden & pond suitability

Unlike many other yarrow species, Achillea ptarmica tolerates consistently moist soil well. It is suitable for the drier edges of a bog garden or damp borders, but should not be planted in standing water.

Care and propagation

  • Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming.
  • Cut back in autumn once flowering has finished.
  • Divide established clumps to maintain vigour.

Why grow it?

This plant is valued by pollinators such as bees and butterflies and brings a light, cottage-garden feel to damp garden areas.
