Plant Description
Dionaea muscipula 'Dirk Ventham's Giant', also known as 'G14', is a giant Venus flytrap clone originally grown by Dirk Ventham. The clone was known as G14 after Graham Sadd obtained the plant in 1995, and the name has remained closely linked to the cultivar ever since.
The plant is best known for its trap colour and large trap size. Mature traps develop a deep red interior that contrasts strongly against the bright green outer lobes and petioles. Under strong light, the red pigmentation can spread heavily across the inside of the trap, while the outside usually stays green.
Dionaea muscipula 'Dirk Ventham's Giant' produces upright growth through much of the season, with tall leaves supporting notably large traps. The cilia are fine, elongated, and often red in colour, with some teeth fading towards pale or white tips as the traps mature. This finer dentition gives the traps a cleaner appearance compared to heavier-toothed giant forms.
Well-grown plants can produce large, broad traps throughout the main growing season, especially during summer growth. The upright habit also helps display the traps clearly above the centre of the plant.
Plant photos above are of our Dionaea muscipula 'Dirk Venthams Giant' G14 mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.
