Plant Description
Dionaea muscipula 'Giant Sand' is a Venus flytrap developed by Norman Parker, a grower closely associated with Adrian Slack. This cultivar is known for its tall, upright form and elevated traps.
The plant produces long, narrow leaf stalks that lift the traps well above the centre of the rosette. This creates an open structure, with each trap held clear of the others. Compared with low-growing forms, Dionaea muscipula 'Giant Sand' has a more vertical habit throughout the growing season.
The traps themselves are large and sit at the end of these slender petioles. Their size contrasts with the narrow leaves, giving the plant a distinctive shape. The traps are typically broad and well-formed, with evenly spaced marginal teeth.
Colour develops with light. The outer trap remains green to yellow-green, while the interior can take on warm tones ranging from light red to deeper shades. This colour often spreads across much of the inner surface in good conditions.
Growth is steady. The plant builds height and produces successive upright leaves rather than forming a dense, low clump. Over time, Dionaea muscipula 'Giant Sand' develops into a tall specimen with clearly separated traps.
Plant photos above are of our Dionaea muscipula 'Giant Sand' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.
