Description

Do you have a Sarracenia or Dionaea (Venus flytrap) ready for a new pot? Our Carnivorous Plant Potting Up Kit contains everything you need.

Carnivorous Plant Soil

Our carnivorous plant soil perfectly blends peat moss, perlite and dried sphagnum moss. This means it provides excellent water retention and has the ability to wick water to the roots where your plants really need it. The perlite ensures the soil can breathe due to a more open structure. After years of perfecting our formula, this is the soil in which our Sarracenia and Dionaea are kept.

High-quality Plastic Pot

These pots are made from high-quality durable plastic and are shaped to maximise space efficiency. They come with the right amount of drainage holes to allow for water to be efficiently drawn up from the water tray. Because these are quality pots, they're reusable for many years.

Plant Pot Label

Made from strong plastic, these 5" plant labels are incredibly hard-wearing in all weather conditions including heavy rain, strong wind and bright sunshine. Simply clean and reuse them almost indefinitely.

Live Moss Topper (Optional)

If you wish, you can add some of our home-grown sphagnum moss to the top of your pot. This will help keep the surface of your soil moist, provide a barrier to weeds and also be decorative. We'll provide you with a small pouch, which will eventually cover the entire surface of your soil.

Instructions

  1. Make sure that your soil's ingredients are still evenly distributed for the best performance. Sometimes during transit, the lighter material can work it's way to the top. Give the soil a good mix to re-distribute it all.
  2. You'll receive your soil dry. Do not pot carnivorous plants into dry soil! We recommend sitting your pot in a tray of rainwater for several hours (preferably overnight) allowing the soil to rehydrate.
  3. Use your hand to create a hole in the soil and carefully place the plant within it. Keep the rhizome at the soil's surface whilst carefully helping the roots to be as deep as possible.
  4. If you are using a live moss topper, separate the strands of live moss and evenly distribute them over the surface of the soil.  Gently press them against the soil so they can absorb moisture from it. They will look sparse at this stage but soon knit together once growing.
  5. Label your plant using the plant label provided. The label is 5" long so it can be pushed down firmly in a back corner between the soil and the pot.
  6. Ait your newly potted plant in a tray of rainwater.
