Plant Description
Dionaea muscipula 'Archangel' is an upright Venus flytrap cultivar developed by FlytrapStore. It is recognised for its large, heavily curved traps and rich dark red colouration. The name 'Archangel' comes from the pronounced arch along the back of each trap, a feature that gives the plant a distinctive profile unlike most other red Venus flytraps.
The traps are large in proportion to the rest of the plant and are carried well above the centre of the rosette on upright leaves. The inner surfaces develop deep shades of burgundy and dark red, while the outer trap and foliage retain varying amounts of green and yellow. This natural blend of colours creates strong contrast, especially as the traps mature through the growing season.
The dentition consists of short, sturdy, triangular teeth that complement the broad shape of the traps. Rather than producing long, delicate cilia, Dionaea muscipula 'Archangel' has thick marginal teeth that give each trap a solid, powerful appearance. The curved trap lobes and compact teeth combine to create one of the cultivar's most recognisable features.
Like many heavily pigmented Venus flytraps, Dionaea muscipula 'Archangel' tends to grow more slowly than green forms. As the season progresses, mature traps often deepen further in colour, with the rich red interiors contrasting against the lighter outer lobes and foliage.
