Plant Description

The Venus flytrap cultivar Dionaea muscipula 'Coquillage' earns its name from the French word for shell. Its unique trap shape directly inspires this.

This plant produces traps that are notably rounded and compact. When closed, they hold a shape that strongly resembles a clam or cockle shell. The traps typically stay smaller than 3 cm, contributing to their distinct profile.

The trap margins, often called the lips, are unusually thick. This characteristic gives the plant a solid, robust look. Short, widely spaced teeth line the edges of these thick lips. This tooth arrangement differs from the longer, more interlocking teeth found on many other Venus flytraps.

Growers value 'Coquillage' for its consistent and well-defined shape. Each new trap reliably displays this shell-like structure. The plant maintains its ornamental appeal throughout the growing season.
