Plant Description

Dionaea muscipula 'Cupped Trap' is a distinctive clone first identified by the nursery Agri-Starts III in Florida during 1998. It sets itself apart through significant physical mutations that affect both its traps and leaves.

The plant's most obvious feature is its namesake trap formation. Unlike standard Venus flytraps, the two lobes of the trap are fused together at their outer edges. This fusion creates a deep, cupped shape even when the trap is open and ready for prey. These unique traps remain fully functional and still manage to capture insects.

Beyond the traps, the plant's leaf blades have their own unique characteristics. They display an obovate shape, which is egg-shaped with the narrower end at the base. The leaf margins are also serrulate, meaning they have teeth-like edges.

Plant photos above are of our Dionaea muscipula 'Cupped Trap' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.
