Plant Description

The Venus flytrap cultivar Dionaea muscipula 'Dracula' is a distinctive plant known for its unique trap structure and colouration.

The most notable feature of 'Dracula' is its large trap mechanism. The two lobes exhibit a strong curve along the midrib, giving them a pronounced, hunched appearance. The plant's name comes from the reduced, triangular-shaped marginal lashes. These lashes resemble fangs and develop a deep blood-red to purple colour.

This colouration is not limited to the lashes. The interior surfaces of the traps also display this intense red pigmentation. In contrast, the exterior of the traps remains a yellowish-green. A prominent red line often runs below the trap lobe margins, adding to its visual definition.

'Dracula' is a vigorous grower. It typically produces leaves that grow low to the ground, with a length of up to 10 cm. This growth habit creates a dense, compact rosette. Its appearance makes it a clear standout amongst Venus flytrap cultivars. The combination of its curved trap lobes, triangular lashes, and deep internal colour defines its identity.
