Plant Description

The Venus flytrap cultivar Dionaea muscipula 'Jaws Smiley' is a plant with a unique growth habit. Grower G. Hoogenstrijd developed this cultivar. It is known for its distorted and twisted foliage, which gives the entire leaf rosette a contorted appearance.

The plant produces short, very broad leaf bases. These bases bear elongated traps that can grow up to 5 cm long. A key characteristic is how these traps curve backwards along the midrib. The trap margins have short, stout, inward-pointing lashes. These lashes have a specific orientation that can prevent some traps from sealing completely. Other traps on the same plant often close fully and function normally.

Its colouration responds to light levels. When exposed to direct sunlight, the interior of the traps develops a pinkish-red blush. The rest of the foliage typically remains a yellowish green. The marginal lashes are pale and can look almost white against the green and red tissue.

Plant photos above are of our Dionaea muscipula 'Jaws Smiley' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.
