Plant Description

The Venus flytrap Dionaea muscipula 'Paradisia' is a specific cultivar named for its Australian originator, Paradisia Nurseries. It stands out for its vigorous growth and distinctive colour changes.

This plant typically produces decumbent leaves reaching about 12 cm long. The traps themselves can grow to an impressive 4 cm. Its most notable feature is the trap colouration, which shifts significantly with light exposure.

When grown in direct sunlight, the inner surfaces of the traps develop a suffused reddish hue. This is often accompanied by red flecks and speckles. The rest of the plant usually displays a light yellowish-orange colour. The trap margins and their delicate lashes frequently take on a pure reddish-purple tone.

The colour display becomes more intense as the year progresses. In late summer and autumn, the entire plant may flush with a deep, pure reddish-purple. This cultivar also grows and matures quickly. Unlike many other Venus flytraps, 'Paradisia' often continues to produce leaves throughout winter and early spring, a period when most others are dormant.
