Plant Description
Dionaea muscipula 'Red Bull', originally known as B01, is a Venus flytrap cultivar selected by Best Carnivorous Plants (BCP) for its unusual trap colouration. Rather than developing an evenly coloured trap interior, this clone produces a rich, dark red central blotch surrounded by brighter shades of red and orange, creating one of the most distinctive colour patterns seen in a Venus flytrap.
The plant grows with an upright habit, producing bright green leaves that display the traps well above the centre of the rosette. Each trap develops colour gradually through the growing season. The area around the trigger hairs darkens first before spreading into a deep burgundy or blood-red centre. Around this, lighter orange-red tones create a natural gradient that contrasts strongly with the bright green trap margins.
As the traps mature under strong sunlight, the central pigmentation continues to deepen, often taking on rich plum or purple-red tones. The irregular pattern means no two traps are exactly alike, with some showing mottled or lightly speckled markings that add further character. The high-arched traps help display this unusual colouration from almost every angle.
Dionaea muscipula 'Red Bull' also produces long, slender cilia that complement the elegant shape of the traps without distracting from the distinctive pigmentation. The traps are medium to large in size and are produced freely throughout the growing season by this vigorous clone.
