Plant Description
Dionaea muscipula 'Red Dentate' is a striking Venus flytrap cultivar prized for its exceptionally dark red colouration and distinctive dentate teeth. It grows with a mostly prostrate habit, producing broad traps that sit low around the rosette. Under strong sunlight, mature plants develop some of the deepest red pigmentation seen in any Venus flytrap, making this cultivar easy to recognise.
Dionaea muscipula 'Red Dentate' is a combination of rich colour and short, triangular teeth. Rather than the long, slender cilia found on a typical Venus flytrap, the trap margins are lined with broad, saw-like teeth that create a bold serrated outline. The traps are noticeably curved, adding further character to the plant's appearance.
Early in the growing season, the traps often display a striking contrast between the deep red interiors and the bright green outer margins. As the season progresses and the plant receives plenty of direct sunlight, the red pigmentation spreads further across the traps, leaving only a narrow green border around the edges. Mature traps can develop intense burgundy to almost black-red tones while retaining their characteristic dentate teeth.
Dionaea muscipula 'Red Dentate' is a vigorous cultivar that produces large, colourful traps throughout the growing season. Its low-growing habit creates a dense display of richly coloured traps that stand out against the green foliage, making it particularly impressive when grown as a mature specimen.
