Plant Description

Dionaea muscipula 'Red Sawtooth' is a compact Venus flytrap cultivar recognised for its deep red colouration and unusual saw-like teeth. The plant forms a low-growing rosette, producing traps that stay close to the substrate and create a dense, colourful display when mature.

The defining feature of Dionaea muscipula 'Red Sawtooth' is its dentition. Rather than the long, needle-like cilia seen on standard Venus flytraps, the teeth are shortened and triangular, giving the trap margins a serrated appearance. This sawtooth effect is visible even on young plants and becomes more pronounced as the traps mature.

Under strong light, the plant develops rich red pigmentation across both the traps and foliage. Mature specimens can become almost entirely red during the peak growing season, with only small areas of green remaining on new growth. This strong colouration, combined with the distinctive trap margins, makes the cultivar easy to recognise among other red Venus flytrap forms.
