Dionaea muscipula 'Werewolf'

Plant Description

Dionaea 'Werewolf' is a unique Venus flytrap cultivar first produced in 2011 by G. Hoogenstrijd of Araflora in Amsterdam and Stefan Lenssen in Germany. The plant gets its name from the jagged, claw-like lashes along the trap margins that resemble the claws of a werewolf.

Dionaea 'Werewolf' grows upright leaves that reach around 6 cm in length, each ending in traps about 3 cm wide. The traps look aggressive, with thick lashes that point in different directions, giving the plant a rugged, untamed appearance. Unlike typical Venus flytraps, this variety has no trigger hairs inside its traps, so they stay open and never close. This makes the shape and texture of the traps easy to observe throughout their growth.

The leaves are long, narrow, and attached to a slender base. All parts of the plant are yellowish green, but the inner surfaces of the traps often take on a reddish tint. Under strong sunlight, the inner trap can also appear yellowish. These colour changes depend on light exposure and the plant’s growing conditions.

Plant photos above are of our Dionaea muscipula 'Werewolf' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold.
