Winter Dormancy

Plants are now just waking up after Winter so may only have young pitchers and/ or flowers - 06/04/25

Plant Description

Here's an interesting Sarracenia alata! This is an areolate form which is relatively unusual  for this species. Areoles are small windows on the pitchers that allow light to permiate the pitcher. More commonly seen in Sarracenia minor, Sarracenia psittacina and Sarracenia leucophylla, it's believed that these windows aid the plants' ability to capture insects. It's thought that the windows confuse insects trying to escape the pitcher by heading towards the light sources.

As if being areolate isn't enough, this is also a fast-growing Sarracenia that can form good-sized clumps in a few seasons.

Plant photos above are of our Sarracenia alata - Areolate Form (Jasper County, Texas) mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.
