Winter Dormancy

Plants are now just waking up after Winter so may only have young pitchers and/ or flowers - 06/04/25

Plant Description

Sarracenia 'Arthur Wheeler' is a spectacular carnivorous pitcher plant hybrid bred by Gary Wheeler and named after his father. This striking cultivar combines traits from its parental heritage of Sarracenia leucophylla, Sarracenia flava, Sarracenia rubra, and Sarracenia alata, resulting in a vigorous, colourful plant that transforms throughout the season.

In spring, the pitchers emerge bright green before maturing to a rich copper with dramatic dark veining. At peak maturity, they develop an elegant white background with bold maroon veins, creating a stunning contrast. The ruffled lid is particularly eye-catching, displaying a creamy white surface laced with deep red veins. The throat transitions from soft pink to a deep wine-red with age. Reaching 50–60 cm tall, these statuesque pitchers make an impressive display.

When flowering, it produces cheerful yellow petals with bracts edged in a delicate orange blush.

Plant photos above are of our Sarracenia 'Arthur Wheeler' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.
