Plant Description

The Venus flytrap Dionaea muscipula 'B52' is a cultivar developed by Henning von Schmeling in the early 2000s. Its story starts with a plant he named 'Carolina Giant'. From the self-pollination of this plant, von Schmeling grew a group of seven seedlings.

He labelled these seedlings from largest to smallest. The 'A1' seedling later became the famous 'B52'. He selected it for its specific traits. The 'B52' shows vigorous growth. It produces traps that are notably large. In conditions where other cultivars make smaller traps, the 'B52' can form traps measuring up to 5.7 cm, or 2.25 inches, long. Its traps often develop a bright red colouration on the inside when exposed to strong light.

This cultivar has a sister plant known as Dionaea muscipula 'A2'. Both originated from the same batch of seedlings. The 'B52' has become a favourite among collectors for its large size and robust nature.

Plant photos above are of our Dionaea muscipula 'B52' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.
