Description of Sarracenia × excellens 'Lochness'

Sarracenia × excellens 'Lochness' is a Sarracenia hybrid created by Adrian Slack in 1963. As a Sarracenia × excellens, it is a blend of Sarracenia leucophylla and Sarracenia minor. It is known for its distinctive horizontally projecting hood and striking variegation. The upper pitchers feature translucent white areolae (aka 'windows') and delicate red veining, which enhance their insect-trapping function.

In spring, it produces flowers ranging from pinkish mahogany to deep mahogany red.
