Description of Sarracenia flava 'Flavona'

In 1996, during a visit to Geneva Botanical Gardens, Italian grower Andrea Amici was captivated by a stand-out Sarracenia flava in their carnivorous plant display. The gardener gifted Andrea a division of the Sarracenia that has been in his collection ever since.

The origins of the plant are unknown but it is believed to be an intervarietal hybrid of Sarracenia flava var. ornata and Sarracenia flava var. rugelii. What makes this flava so special? Its size and shape are what make it look so impressive. The pitchers have reached over 90cm tall with lids reaching up to 15cm across!

The throat is strongly stained red, with dark red veins under the lid that are drawn down more finely on the body of the pitcher.

Plant photos above are of our Sarracenia flava 'Flavona' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold.
