Description of Sarracenia flava var. rubricorpora (Apalachicola National Forest, Florida) F25

Sarracenia flava var. rubricorpora F25 (Apalachicola National Forest, Florida) is a selected red tube form from one of the most famous Sarracenia regions in the Florida Panhandle. Plants from this area are known for their strong pigmentation, and F25 is an excellent example of the rubricorpora form, combining height, colour, and a well-defined throat patch.

Pitchers are tall, upright, and elegant, with the classic proportions expected of Sarracenia flava. Early growth often emerges with a greener appearance, but as the pitchers mature, the tube gradually develops deeper pigmentation. Established plants can produce rich plum-red pitchers that extend almost the full length of the tube, creating a bold contrast with the lighter upper portions.

One of the defining features of this clone is the relationship between the tube and the lid. While the pitcher body develops strong red colouration, the lid remains yellow-green to lime-green with fine red veining. This creates a striking contrast that immediately draws attention to the upper part of the trap. Beneath the lid sits a large, dark red throat patch that spreads down into the column, forming a dramatic focal point.

The lid itself is broad and slightly undulating along the margins. In strong light, the veining becomes more pronounced while the background colour remains bright. The combination of a green lid, dark throat, and red tube gives the plant a distinctive appearance throughout the growing season.

As the plant matures and settles into a pot, the colour develops more fully with each passing season. F25 is a great-looking plant!
