Description of Sarracenia 'God's Gift'

Sarracenia 'God’s Gift' is a selected seedling from the complex hybrid Sarracenia × mitchelliana (Sarracenia leucophyllaSarracenia purpurea venosa) X Sarracenia leucophylla. The plant originated in the collection of the renowned carnivorous plant expert Adrian Slack. Mike King later named it.

The pitcher shape shows clear influence from its parent species. It has a robust, upright form reminiscent of Sarracenia leucophylla. The pitcher body is wide, with a slightly swollen base that hints at its Sarracenia purpurea heritage. The lid, or operculum, is held open and often curves gracefully.

Its colouration is a key feature. The pitchers develop a deep, solid red pigmentation that covers most of the tube. This rich colour provides a strong contrast to the white, windowed areolae on the hood. These translucent patches attract insects into the trap. The plant produces these colourful pitchers from spring until autumn. It is a reliable and vigorous grower.
