Description of Sarracenia 'Hugh Jampton'

Sarracenia 'Hugh Jampton' is a striking Sarracenia hybrid, beloved for its vibrant colours and elegant form. It originated as a selected seed-grown clone of Sarracenia flava var. rugelii, a flava known for its red-throated pitchers. It's clearly not a pure flava, though, with the genetics of another Sarracenia species being involved somewhere (most likely Sarracenia oreophila). 'Hugh Jampton' stands out due to its exceptional colouration, bright yellow-green pitchers with bold red veining and a distinctive, almost luminous appearance. The tubes are tall and slender, sometimes reaching up to 60 cm, with ruffled lids that attract unsuspecting insects.  

This cultivar was named in honour of a humorous pseudonym (we're not going to explain that here!) used by a well-known plantsman, adding a touch of whimsy to its history. Hardy and low-maintenance, it thrives in sunny, boggy conditions both in the greenhouse and the garden, making it a fantastic choice for collectors who want something that looks special without breaking the bank.

Plant photos above are of our Sarracenia 'Hugh Jampton' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold.
