Plant Description

Sarracenia 'Johnny Marr' is a good-looking hybrid created in 1999 by crossing a Sarracenia × catesbaei (Sarracenia flava var. cuprea X Sarracenia purpurea subsp. venosa) with another S. flava var. cuprea. This cultivar produces robust, upright pitchers reaching around 60 cm in height, featuring a wide, open mouth (5–7 cm across) and a gracefully undulating hood spanning approximately 12 cm.

The spring pitchers are particularly striking, with the upper two-thirds glowing in a brilliant copper hue, a vivid display that makes it a standout in any collection. As summer progresses, the pitchers transform into a deep burgundy-purple, accentuated by near-black veining.

The plant also bears elegant, pale pink flowers measuring about 10 cm in diameter. Named in honour of the legendary guitarist at the 2010 RHS Flower Show in Tatton Park by Matthew Soper.

Plant photos above are of our Sarracenia 'Johnny Marr' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.

Sarracenia Johnny Marr

Basic Sarracenia Care

Sarracenia 'Johnny Marr' is easy to care for, given the correct conditions. An unheated greenhouse is an ideal location. Here are the 3 golden rules for healthy Sarracenia pitcher plants.

  1. Provide as much sun as possible.
  2. Keep their pots sat in 1-2cm of rainwater.
  3. Use acidic soil. A 1:1 peat moss & perlite mix is typical.
