Description of Sarracenia 'Joyce Cooper'

Sarracenia 'Joyce Cooper' is an attractive, vigorous Sarracenia hybrid. Nigel Hewitt-Cooper created it in 1999. He crossed an all-red form of Sarracenia x catesbaei with Sarracenia moorei 'Brooks Hybrid'. He named the cultivar for his paternal grandmother.

Its most notable feature is its unique colouration. The hooded pitchers develop an orange-red hue. This colour has a soft, airbrushed quality rather than appearing as a solid block. The veins on the back of the pitcher lid are reversed. They present as green tracery on a dark red background.

The plant produces brick-red flowers in spring. These sit above short petals and dark copper sepals. Its upright pitchers reach a height of approximately 15 inches. This combination of unusual colour and form makes 'Joyce Cooper' a eye-catcher in any Sarracenia collection.
