Description of Sarracenia 'Ladies in Waiting'

Sarracenia 'Ladies in Waiting' is an elegant Sarracenia hybrid, beloved for its beautiful pitchers and hardy nature. This hybrid was created by crossing Sarracenia leucophylla with (Sarracenia rubra X Sarracenia psittacina), combining the best traits of its parents. Originating from a single seedling gifted to the North Carolina Botanical Garden in 1985, it has since charmed growers with its unique features.  

The pitchers grow up to 35 cm tall, standing stiffly upright with a slight outward curve. The upper third flares gracefully, crowned by a ruffled hood, a nod to its leucophylla heritage, while the speckled patterning and hairy interior reveal its psittacina lineage. Its modest height comes from S. rubra, which also influences its small red flowers. The colouring is a real showstopper: deep green at the base fading into rich maroon-red, adorned with bold white spots.  

Thriving in full sun, it produces pitchers all season, peaking in late summer and autumn. Hardy down to -18°C (0°F), it’s both tough and refined, like a royal attendant, hence its whimsical name, 'Ladies in Waiting'. A true gem for any carnivorous plant collection!

Plant photos above are of our Sarracenia 'Ladies in Waiting' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold.
