Plant Description

Sarracenia 'Mr Purple Haze' is a stunning purple (as you'd expect!) Sarracenia hybrid created by well-known Sarracenia growing Roy Cheek in the 1990's.

The parents of this plant are Sarracenia × mitchelliana and Sarracenia leucophylla so its genetics are 3/4 S. leucophylla and 1/4 Sarracenia purpurea. In overall appearance, we have a purple leucophylla bit with a slightly bulbous, attractive pitcher shape. A winning plant that feels like it should be more expensive than it is!

Plant photos above are of our Sarracenia 'Mr Purple Haze' mother plants. Divisions are taken from mother plants are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Basic Sarracenia Care

Sarracenia 'Mr Purple Haze' is easy to care for, given the correct conditions. An unheated greenhouse is an ideal location. Here are the 3 golden rules for healthy Sarracenia pitcher plants.

  1. Provide as much sun as possible.
  2. Keep their pots sat in 1-2cm of rainwater.
  3. Use acidic soil. A 1:1 peat moss & perlite mix is typical.
