Plant Description

In 1999, seeds of Sarracenia purpurea subsp. venosa were successfully germinated at the University of California. After several years of cultivation, a particularly robust and visually striking clone was selected in 2005 and later registered as a distinct cultivar.

This compact yet vigorous plant is especially notable for its dramatic pitcher colouration: the lower portion of the pitcher forms a deep, blood-red 'belly', while the upright hood displays a vivid yellow-green hue with intricate red veining. Due to this striking contrast, renowned carnivorous plant expert Barry Rice aptly named the cultivar 'Belly of Blood'. In our opinion, one of the best-looking Sarracenia purpurea out there!
