Description of Sarracenia purpurea subsp. venosa var. burkii (Bay County, North Florida)

This Sarracenia purpurea subsp. venosa var. burkii (Sarracenia rosea) from Bay County, North Florida, is a large-growing Gulf Coast form with a clear emphasis on broad, open pitchers.

Colouration is relatively pale. The base ranges from soft green to yellow-green, overlaid with fine red veining that spreads across the surface. As the pitchers mature, the veining can intensify. The lid is large and strongly reflexed, often showing a network of pink to red veins over a light background.

The outer surface of the pitchers often shows a slight softness or fine hairing, especially on younger growth. The rim is thick but not sharply defined, blending into the body of the trap.

This Bay County form reflects typical Sarracenia rosea traits, with open structure, pale colour, and broad lids.
