Description of Sarracenia 'Sky Watcher'

Sarracenia 'Sky Watcher' is a selected clone believed to originate from the complex hybrid Sarracenia umlauftiana. Its parentage combines S. courtii and S. wrigleyana, and is therefore a mix of Sarracenia purpurea, psittacina, and leucophylla species.

This cultivar grows in a rosette form, staying lower to the ground than many other pitcher plants. A mature plant reaches about a foot tall. Its growth is notably wide, giving it a substantial presence.

The 'Sky Watcher' produces unusual pitchers. They form like cobra hoods that flare upwards. This hood displays a white background covered in a dense network of thick red veins.

It offers its best and most eye-catching pitchers in the late growing season. The plant's unique structure and vivid colouration make it a distinct variety for collections.

Plant photos above are of our Sarracenia 'Sky Watcher' mother plants. Divisions are taken from the mother plants and are planted into 9cm pots to be sold. Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.

Basic Sarracenia Care

Sarracenia 'Sky Watcher' is easy to care for, given the correct conditions. An unheated greenhouse is an ideal location. Here are the 3 golden rules for healthy Sarracenia pitcher plants.

  1. Provide as much sun as possible.
  2. Keep their pots sat in 1-2cm of rainwater.
  3. Use acidic soil. A 1:1 peat moss & perlite mix is typical.
