Description of Sarracenia 'True Blood'

Sarracenia 'True Blood' is an original hybrid from Adrian Slack. Its parentage is complex but shows influence from Sarracenia flava, Sarracenia purpurea, and Sarracenia oreophila. This proposed lineage produces a robust and vigorous plant with a strong character.

The pitchers are a striking feature. They can, in large plants, reach lengths of around 45cm. The erect hood spans up to 14.5cm across. The nectar roll is broad, angular, and blunted, a trait likely inherited from Sarracenia oreophila.

Colour development is significant. Pitchers are heavily veined. They mature to a rich crimson-maroon in strong sunlight. This deep colour is most persistent around the nectar roll and the back of the throat. The colour deepens further towards late summer. The flower has crimson-maroon petals and is similar in proportion to a Sarracenia × moorei.

This hybrid performs very well in the UK climate. It grows successfully both outdoors and in greenhouse cultivation.
