Description of Sarracenia 'Vogel'

Sarracenia 'Vogel' is a well-known Sarracenia cultivar known for its robust, bulging pitchers and distinctive colouration. The pitchers reach nearly 30cm and are green with bold red longitudinal veins, intensifying towards the upper section.

The large, wide hood features heavy veining, particularly on the inner surface, which also carries a dense covering of small bristly hairs. As the plant matures, the hood’s interior deepens to a rich red with darker veins, while the exterior remains mostly green with pronounced red veining. The hood’s margins fold slightly inwards, giving it a unique, almost sculptural appearance.

Visually, Sarracenia 'Vogel' resembles a Sarracenia catesbaei hybrid but stands out due to its inward-folded hood structure. Its flowers have pale yellowish-green petals, sometimes with pink highlights, and emit a strong scent typical of Sarracenia flava.

Division sizes can vary greatly and will always be sent largest first. If you'd like to know the size of a plant before ordering, please feel free to contact us.

Basic Sarracenia Care

Sarracenia 'Vogel' is easy to care for, given the correct conditions. An unheated greenhouse is an ideal location. Here are the 3 golden rules for healthy Sarracenia pitcher plants.

  1. Provide as much sun as possible.
  2. Keep their pots sat in 1-2cm of rainwater.
  3. Use acidic soil. A 1:1 peat moss & perlite mix is typical.
