Description of Sarracenia × catesbaei 'Bengal Tiger'

Sarracenia × catesbaei 'Bengal Tiger' is a specific clone of the Catesby's pitcher plant hybrid. Its parentage is Sarracenia purpurea venosa var. burkii crossed with Sarracenia flava var. ornata.

This cultivar combines traits from both its parents. It produces short, tubby pitchers. The leaves are a bright yellow-green. They feature spectacular red venation across large, flared hoods. The pitchers mature to a rich maroon colour. This creates a strong visual contrast with the veins.

The 'Bengal Tiger' is most valued for its spring show. The pitchers hold their colour well throughout the growing season. It is a hardy and reliable plant for the bog garden.
