Description of Sarracenia 'La Bête'

A true monster from the carnivorous plant nursery of Philippe and Hélène Depiets in France - Sarracenia 'La Bête'. In English, this is 'The Beast'! Named for its imposing size and extremely large, gaping mouth, 'La Bête' stands out in any collection. Although it is indeed a beast, it is also a beauty with white tops rivalling classic Sarracenia leucophylla tops.

Here's how this spectacular Sarracenia hybrid was created: S. 'Bella' X (S. × moorei 'Wilkerson's White Knight' X S. leucophylla MK-L18). This gives 'La Bête' the following genetic make-up;

So, digesting this, we can see the parentage is S. leucophylla (81.25%), S. flava (12.5%) and S. purpurea (6.25%). This all proves true, with the appearance dominated by the beauty of S. leucophylla, but picking up the robustness of S. flava and the large mouth of S. purpurea.
